About

Quignones Casa Vinicola Sicilia is a family-owned agricultural estate with roots stretching back to the mid-nineteenth century, set on the slopes of the hill of Sant’Oliva near Licata, an ancient Mediterranean port on Sicily’s south-central coast. The property unfolds across a landscape shaped by centuries of history — from the construction of a railway that bisected the estate in the late 1800s to the Allied landings of July 1943, witnessed from the family farmhouse. Today, under the ownership of engineer Alfredo Quignones, the estate cultivates vines, olive trees, and almond groves across calcareous hillside terrain. The dry climate, tempered by proximity to the sea, combined with deliberately low yields per hectare, provides the conditions for producing DOC and IGT wines and extra virgin olive oil, all distributed across Italy and several European countries under the Quignones label.

The estate operates its own winery, overseeing the entire process from grape processing through ageing and bottling, alongside a dedicated facility for the storage and packaging of olive oil. A further production unit, situated metres from the winery, creates a range of vegetable preserves under the Terradelicata brand — including caponata, orange marmalade, dried tomato paste, and pepper and artichoke creams — all processed within 48 hours of harvest from the abundant agricultural plain surrounding Licata.

Visitors to the estate are welcomed personally by the owner for tastings that pair Quignones wines with Terradelicata preserves and locally sourced breads and cheeses from this part of Sicily. These sessions are conceived not as commercial transactions but as convivial gatherings, enriched by the owner’s accounts of local history — a quality consistently noted in reviews left by guests from across the world.
